If you are trying to lose you will not unduly notice that you need to eat a healthy diet from health experts in order to lose the weight. They say that a healthy diet is what is of buttermost important for you to lose the weight. But as you hear the term healthy diet, you might be asking yourself what actually is a healthy diet?
According to health experts a healthy diet must contain these six nutrients. The six nutrients are protein, fat (these are good fats, not bad fat such as saturated fat), carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral and water.
You may ask what about calories. Well, calories can only be found in carbohydrates, proteins and fat. Now your next question should be what is a calorie? A calorie is merely a measurement. This is the amount of energy that is released when you eat foods and your body has to break it down. So if you should eat food with a lot of calories then your body will have to use more energy to break that food down.
If you eat more calories than your body needs then this extra amount of calories will be stored as fat. So you need to watch your calorie intake to ensure that you are not eating more than your body needs. Fat free or low carbohydrate foods do have a lot of calories so you still have to watch your calorie take with these foods because they can cause your body to store fat.
Let's look at what is protein. These are made of substance called amino acids which are considered very vital for your health. The daily reference value of protein for an adult is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. Unfortunately, most people eat twice the recommended amount of protein in a given day.
Next in line of the nutrients are carbohydrates. There is a fuel for the body in the form of glucose. You should be getting about forty five to sixty five percent of your calories from the foods you eat that are high in carbohydrates.
Vitamins is a nutrient that you will get from the food you consume, your body does not produce them. You will need about thirteen essential vitamins to maintain a healthy body. And we should be consuming vitamins daily.
Minerals are vitamins have something in common in that body that does not produce them so we have to get them from the foods that we eat. You need these for proper function of your body.
And last but by no means least in importance is water. Water is essential for your existence. Your body needs to be properly hydrated and that is the function of water. The body weight is made up of about 65% water but the body can not store the water so you have to consistently give it more through the day.
Now you have a basic idea of what the nutrients are and their proportion to maintain a healthy diet. Arm yourself with this information when you go grocery shopping or preparing a meal because this will help you in managing your calories take and making sure that you are sufficient enough water within a given day.
